Nursing Loan Repayment
Students are required to complete Nursing Loan Exit Interview Counseling upon leaving Linfield University. If this requirement is not completed before degree completion/graduation, a hold is placed on your diploma. Linfield University has a strict policy on this and will not make exceptions to this policy.
- After a student graduates, leaves school or drops below half-time enrollment, the student will have a nine-month grace period before repayment begins.
- Exit interviews provide a complete explanation of repayment, deferment and cancellation privileges. Through this exit counseling, you will be informed of your rights and responsibilities regarding your student loans.
- If you are attending another school, you are still responsible for completing your exit interview.
Students will receive a customized email a month prior to graduation with detailed instructions on how to complete their exit interview online. Instructions are also listed below:
Nursing Loan Exit Interview Counseling
Once on the ECSI website, follow the steps below:
- Click on the "Sign In" or "Register" button listed at the top of the page.
- Create a new profile or sign in.
- After you have successfully created a new profile and/or signed in, you may need to connect your account to your profile as follows:
- Click on "Connect an Account"
- Type in your "Heartland Key Number". If you do not know your Heartland Key Number, you can request this by contacting the Loans Receivable Coordinator, Marcy McCune, via email at mmccune@linfield.edu.
- Once connected, you will be redirected to your account.
- To complete your exit interview on a connected account, click the school's name, then click the View Account button. Your exit interview will be listed under the documents tab.

Calculator Results: Using the repayment calculator, with an interest rate of 5% and total Stafford debt of $7,000, an example repayment schedule would be:
- Interest Rate: 5%
- Loan Amount: $7,000
- Repayment Plan: Standard
- Terms (in months): 120
- Initial Monthly Payment: $74.25
Terms and Conditions:
Student’s terms and conditions of the loan are located with the Master Promissory Note, which students are encouraged to sign online. Students who are awarded the Nursing Student Loan will receive an email with instructions on completing the Master Promissory Note.
Defaulted Nursing Loan:
Default (failing to repay a loan) is defined in detail in the Terms and Conditions section of the MPN. Serious consequences occur with default:
- The United States Department of Education (ED) will require immediate repayment of the entire unpaid amount of the loan
- ED will require the payment of reasonable collection fees and costs, plus court costs and attorney fees
- ED will report the default to national consumer reporting agencies
- The borrower may be denied a professional license
- The borrower will lose eligibility for other federal student aid and assistance under most federal benefit programs
- The borrower will lose eligibility for loan deferments
