Mission & Philosophy Statement

  • Mission Statement

The Student Health, Wellness and Counseling Center (SHWCC) at Linfield University provides integrative care and support that fosters student growth and development at multiple levels – physical, psychological, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. Our medical, behavioral and counseling services are offered in a respectful and non-judgmental environment that embraces the diverse cultures, ethnicities, beliefs and backgrounds of our college community. We understand each student brings with them a lifetime of experiences, sometimes traumatic, which impact the ability to function to the fullest potential.

Utilizing a team approach to student care, we promote prevention strategies in addition to providing immediate and ongoing treatment. We encourage students’ engagement in the pursuit of well-being and help them to develop skills that will facilitate lifelong healthy habits and choices.

  • Philosophy Statement

For many, college is a time of personal growth and discovery. Behaviors that impact health and well-being are developed, practiced and either discarded or adopted. College is a time for students to try new approaches to managing their own physical and mental health and define wellness on their own terms. Linfield University Student Health, Wellness and Counseling Center strives to provide evidence-based, best practices to inform choices students make about their health. We are here to provide both direct care as well as opportunities to engage in healthy lifestyle choices in a safe, supportive and occasionally, FUN, out of the classroom environment.
